Abstract: This paper presents a systematic study of whole-garment knitting technology. It first introduces the characteristics of three categories of whole-garment knitting processes, i.e., warp knitting, weft knitting, and flat knitting, and analyzes the advantages of this technology in seamless construction and zoned structural design. The paper then summarizes its applications in sports and fitness apparel, sports protective gear, athleisure wear, and smart sportswear, while also examining the contributions of 3D digital design and artificial intelligence to the advancement of whole-garment knitted apparel. The findings indicate that whole-garment knitting technology enables the direct, one-step conversion of yarn into finished garments, eliminating redun-dant sewing processes. This not only conserves raw materials and streamlines production workflows, but also significantly enhances the body-conforming fit, functionality, and wearing comfort of sportswear. The integration of digital and intelligent technologies further improves precision design and production efficiency. Looking ahead, with the continuous convergence of materials, equipment, and digital technologies, whole-garment knitting is poised to become a pivotal technology driving the high-quality development of the sportswear industry.
