Abstract: This paper discusses the major concern for the sustainable development of polyester and polyester fiber industry chain. Although compared to other synthetic materials, polyester has superior comprehensive competitive advantages, the large increase in total production has brought many problems that require new technologies to solve. These technologies include bio-based synthetic materials, new catalysts and fiber surface finishing agents, biodegradable fiber forming and processing technologies; low-toxic melt coloring technology and using new polyester fibers to substitute those existing chemical fibers made by high energy-consuming and environmentally unfriendly processes and those are difficult to recycle; and new and modified polyester fiber manufacturing technologies without harmful aldehydes during both processing and the use of products and without adverse effects on the environment and human body.
