Research Status of Composite Fabrics

Abstract: Owing to a combination of various materials, composite fabrics not only have maintained the performance characteristics of the original components, but also made the components complement each other by material designing. In this paper, concept and development history of composite fabrics were introduced; compounding technologies including structural designing, laminating, coating, polymerization method, chemical plating, vacuum deposition, sputtering, etc. were described. Based on the research and application status of composite fabrics, main properties such as waterproof and moisture permeability, antistatic property, electromagnetic shielding performance, photocatalytic degradation performance, thermal control performance, etc. were expounded. Results show that the research of multifunctional composite fabric is future development trend. Meanwhile, sustainability of materials and the manufacturing process is still an important issue.
