Abstract: Aramid fiber is a high-performance fiber with outstanding combination properties, which has been widely used in composite materials as an important reinforce material. When being used as reinforcement in composite materials, the smooth surface and low chemical activity of the fiber as a result of its high degree of crystallization often lead to poor interfacial bonding performance between the aramid fiber and the substrate. Therefore, it is necessary to modify the fiber surface to improve the bonding behavior. The article, by introducing some latest developments in the chemical treatment methods for aramid fiber surface, discusses how to improve the bonding behavior between the aramid fiber and the substrate in composite materials.
