Industrial Value-added of China’s Textile Industry up by 5.3% in First Five Months

China’s value-added industrial output, an important economic indicator, went up 5.6% year on year in May, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed.

On a monthly basis, the entire industrial output edged up 0.3% in May from the previous month. During the January-May period, it rose 6.2% year on year.

The industrial output measures the activity of enterprises each with an annual main business turnover of at least 20 million yuan (about US$ 2.81 million).

From January to May, the textile industry’s value-added output upped by 5.3%.

By product, in May, the production of 352 out of 619 kinds of products increased year-on-year. Among them, fabric output grew by 2.5% year-on-year to 13 billion meters in the January-May period, while the output of chemical fibers surged 15.4% to 32.03 million tons in the first five months this year.
