Abstract: Indigo dyeing technique, with its unique characteristics and rich formal language, has been used for expressing people’s feelings and desire for life and it endows products with profound aesthetic and cultural connotations. Introducing the designing element of indigo dyeing technique to modern life will not only promote the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional handicraft art, but also enrich and extend modern fashion design language. The paper analyzed aesthetic characteristics of traditional indigo dyeing, including colors, patterns, expression of implied meaning, technical features, etc. and introduced the fashion design of indigo dyeing.
