Abstract: Functionalization and high-performance have become increasingly important to PET, while biological processing is an effective way for realizing functional modification and environmental-friendly treatment of PET. In this paper, the characteristics and applications of two PET biological processing methods were reviewed by elaborating on the process of surface modification of four different forms of PET via biological hydrolysis as well as the impact of the physical characteristics and structure of PET and the hydrolysis products on the surface modification ability. The prospects of PET biological processing were also discussed.
