The Design of a Charcoal/Silver Fabric with Antibacterial and Thermal Insulation Properties

Abstract: This paper introduced a charcoal/silver fabric with antibacterial and thermal insulation properties, which is made by using thermoprinting and laminating technologies. The selection of base fabric, product specifications, technological process, process parameters and key technologies were introduced in details and then the antibacterial property, tearing strength, appearance retention after washing, abrasion resistance, thermal insulation property of the laminated fabric were tested according to related standards. The test results show that there is no evident peeling-off of the charcoal/silver layer after washing, the anti-staphylococcus aureus rate of the fabric is up to 97.9%, the warp-wise tearing strength is 13.4 N, the weft-wise tearing strength is 12.9 N, the abrasion resistance is over 5,000 turns, the thermal resistance is 0.013 m2·K/W and the wet resistance is 25.1 m2·Pa/W. These data prove that the designed functional fabric meet both the technical requirements in related standards and customer’s requirements.
