Abstract: Coating weight is a decisive factor for the quality of functional coated fabric and one of the important process parameters in production and it has direct impact on physical properties of the fabric such as tear strength and water pressure resistance as well as production costs and economic benefits. Based on analyzing the defects of traditional manual coating weight testing techniques, it introduced the recent progress made in the research of online coating weight testing technologies, which are respectively based on situation-ray, capacitance and infrared, and listed some research work undertaken by the authors. Finally, the future development of coating weight measurement system was forecast.
