According to China Customs statistics, from January to November, China’s apparel and accessories exports totaled US$144.22 billion, down by 0.2% year-on-year. In November alone, the apparel and accessories exports reached US$13.02 billion, increasing by 4.3% year-on-year, maintaining the export growth since October.
Exports continue to increase in volume and decrease in price
From January to November, knitted garment exports grew while woven apparel exports fell. These two major categories of apparel all saw a more than 12% year-on-year growth in export volume. However, their export prices declined continually, and the woven apparel export price fell more. Knitted garment exports totaled US$66.35 billion, up by 3.6% year-on-year; the export volume was 19.21 billion pieces, increasing by 12.3% year-on-year. As for woven apparel, its exports totaled US$58.77 billion, down by 4.2% year-on-year. Its export volume reached 12.64 billion pieces, which is up by 13.3% year-on-year. Apparel accessories exports were US$14.35 billion, seeing a year-on-year decline of 1.7%.
Exports of shirts and underwear grew faster
From January to November, the exports of shirts and underwear maintained faster growth. The exports of knitted T-shirts rose sharply by 23.8%, while the exports of shirts, underwear/pajamas, and baby clothes grew by 9.9%, 8.6%, and 6.3%, respectively. Outerwear exports showed a slump. The exports of coats/cold weather apparel and suits/civilian suits fell by 17% and 11.8%, respectively.
Exports to the United States and Europe grew, while to the emerging markets slowed down
From January to November, China’s exports to the developed economies (the United States, Canada, Europe, Britain, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand) totaled US$81 billion, up by 2.8% year-on-year. Meanwhile, exports to the “Belt and Road” countries totaled US$60.4 billion, down by 4.8% year-on-year. Their share accounted for 41.9%. Exports to the five Central Asian countries showed a downward trend, with a figure of US$11.55 billion, declining by 3.3% year-on-year. Exports to Latin America were US$8.69 billion, seeing a year-on-year increase of 8.7% (of which exports to Mexico and Brazil increased by 20.4% and 13.4%, respectively). Exports to Africa were US$6.52 billion, down 18% year-on-year. Exports to the six GCC countries amounted to US$4.09 billion, which dropped by 14.9% year-on-year.
