The data released by the General Administration of Customs indicates that the external demand stayed strong in May. China’s textile and apparel exports have seen a rise due to several favorable factors, such as increased orders from global buyers and the continuous growth in the trade volume of intermediate goods to ASEAN.
In CNY-denominated terms, from January to May, the cumulative textile and apparel exports amounted to 822.91 billion yuan, up by 4.8% year-on-year. Thereinto, the textile exports totaled 405.82 billion yuan, increasing by 6.1% year-on-year; apparel exports were 417.09 billion yuan, seeing a year-on-year growth of 3.5%.
In May, textile and apparel exports reached 185.59 billion yuan, seeing a year-on-year growth of 6.2% and a month-on-month increase of 9.2%. Among them, textile exports were 91.52 billion yuan, up by 9.8% year-on-year and 5.8% month-on-month; apparel exports were 94.07 billion yuan, up by 2.9% year-on-year and 12.8% month-on-month.
In US$-denominated terms, textile and apparel exports reached US$ 26.13 billion in May alone, seeing a year-on-year growth of 4.5% and a month-on-month increase of 9.2%. Among them, textile exports were US$ 12.89 billion, up by 8.0% year-on-year; apparel exports reached US$ 13.25 billion, growing by 1.3% year-on-year.
From January to May, China’s textile and apparel exports amounted to US$ 115.84 billion, showing a 1.4% increase compared to the previous year. Among them, textile exports were US$ 57.13 billion, up by 2.6% year-on-year; apparel exports reached US$ 58.72 billion, growing by 0.2% year-on-year.
