Garment Industry Saw Increasing Trend in January-March

In the first quarter of 2021, benefiting from the obvious recovery in domestic and international market demand and the stable supply chain of the industrial chain, China's garment industry has seen a continued recovery. Domestic sales and exports of garments have maintained growth, and clothing production has back to the level of the same period in 2019.


The economic operation of garment industry in January-March is as follows:


Production

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to March, the garment production of enterprises above designated size in garment industry totaled 5.26 billion pieces, up by 24.1% year-on-year.


Domestic sales

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to March, the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to more than CNY 10.52 trillion, increased by 33.9% year-on-year. Thereinto, the retail sales of clothing, foot & head wear and knitted goods by major retailers above designated size was CNY 249.6 billion, surged by 59% year-on-year.


According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to March, China's online retail sales was over CNY 2.3 trillion, growing by 25.8% year-on-year. In the online retail sales of physical commodities, wearing goods increased by 39.6% year-on-year.


Export

According to the Customs Newsletters, from January to March, China's garment and accessories exports totaled US$ 33.29 billion, surged by 47.7% year-on-year.


Investment

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to March, the actual investment of China's garment industry increased by 17.1% compared with the same period of 2020.


Benefit

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to March, the main business income of textile enterprises above designated size totaled about CNY 296.81 billion, with year-on-year growth of 16.55%; the total profit was CNY 11.58 billion, up by 43.29% year-on-year; the margin of sales was 3.90%, edged up 0.72 percentage point compared with the same period in 2020.
