Process Control of Segment Colored Yarn and Analysis of Its Product Effects

Abstract: Segment colored yarn is a type of fancy yarn with alternating color changes, whose color patterns and segment lengths are influenced by spinning process parameters. To investigate the impact of roving feeding time on the color segment length of colored yarn and its fabric patterns, segment colored yarn with varied color effects was prepared by adjusting the feeding time and alternating color sequence. Fabric samples were produced using different process parameters to examine the specific relationship between the yarn’s color change rules and fabric pattern formation. The results show that controlling the timing and color sequence significantly affects the color change mechanism of segment colored yarn: the feeding time is positively correlated with the length of the color segments; the fabric patterns display a striped appearance, with stripe width positively related to the segment length. Under certain conditions, the relationship between stripe width and segment length follows a power function. The spun yarns have controllable colors, and the knitted fabrics exhibit bright colors and distinct layers, offering new ideas for developing future segment colored yarn products.
