On Testing the Contact Angle of Single Bamboo Fiber

2015年2月26日

Abstract: In this article, the contact angles of six kinds of single textile fiber including bamboo fiber were tested by using Kruss DSA 100 contact angle tester and the experimental data were analyzed by means of one-way ANOVA. The results indicated that the contact angle of non-hydrophilic polyester fiber is larger than that of hydrophilic fibers, such as bamboo, jute, flax, ramie and viscose fibers. The contact angle of bamboo fiber is the smallest among the hydrophilic fibers and significantly different from the contact angle of flax, ramie and viscose fibers. This suggests that bamboo fiber has very excellent wettability. In addition, the contact angle of the bamboo fiber is equal to that of jute fiber and the test results of these two fibers have no distinguished difference since they are similar in chemical composition and fiber surface morphology, which suggests that the wettability of jute fiber is excellent too.

Key words: bamboo fiber; contact angle of single fiber; angle measuring method; one-way ANOVA
